Question

I am a 60 yr old overweight woman, who took a very hard fall on my knees today. I can tolerate pain pretty well, but am wondering if I broke/tore anything or just a bad bruise. Is there any symptons i just watch for.

Signs you should watch out for are:

Any 'locking' of the knee
ANy restriction of movement (other than that which is due to pain).
Any instability of the knee.
Excessive pain and swelling. Some amount of pain and swelling is of course to be expected.

You should take the following steps:
Warm Fomentation.
Rest - do the recommended exercises but try not to strain the knee beyond that, as in climbing heavy stairs or lifting weights. Avoid running and other exercises for at least a week.
Knee cap: use a knee cap to give relief , you can get it any pharmacy.
Keep your feet elevated at night, put a pillow under your feet while sleeping.
