Question
Just over a month ago I suffered from a stomach virus that lasted almost three weeks. I had a fever, dizziness and nausea, constipation and then loose stools, vomiting early on, profuse sweating and severe muscular pain especially in my limbs. I went to a walk in clinic since I was too sick to travel across town to my regular g.p. My flu test was negative (eight days into the illness) and I was told that I had a stomach virus that was going around and that my duration of symptoms was within the norm. Since that time, I have been having a swollen abdominal area and pain in my ovaries. I am still sweating at night, but not nearly to the degree as when I was sick. I have tremendous gas all the time and pass it regularly both rectally and by belching. I have had frequent urination but with no pain. I had hoped that getting my period (started yesterday) would finally clear away these remaining symptoms, but the abdominal bloating and ovary pain are both as bad or worse. Ideas?

Answer
These are IBS like symptoms. This is a condition where the bowels are in a hyperirritable state. It presents in different ways, including bowel movements after every meal, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, bloating of the stomach, excessive flatulence, etc.
It is an easily treatable condition, and will require some lifestyle changes, and specially some changes in your diet. You need to adopt a proper diet. Please look below for some sites which can give you some very useful tips on diet and other factors. you must also consult your doctor for advise regarding this. Discuss about Irritable Bowel Syndrome with him and the steps you need to take.
You also need to consult your doctor to rule out two other conditions which are similar, but which do not seem likely in your case, ulcerative colitis and Crohns disease.
You can look up these sites for more info:

Is the pain in my ovaries related to this diagnosis? How about the continuing night sweats?
Answer
The pain in the ovary region is a part of this.
Night sweats may or may not be related, you should try to get rid of the abdominal symptoms with proper diet. The sweating should improve along with the abdominal symptoms, if it does not, you have to show your doctor for this.

I am looking for an answer that does more than just redescribe the set of symptoms. I want to know what ties together this set of symptoms that I have never before suffered from. I have never had any digestive type problems and now I am suffering from rather serious ones along with the other previously mentioned symptoms.
