You need to strip virtually the whole mirror down to do this job ..

First you need to remove the mirror glass - the easiest way is to push the glass down to its lower position and then with a small lever it can be prised off and will unclip from its mounting.

Be careful here as mirror glass and back can be broken if you use too much force.

Too, protect the mirror edge from the lever as the trim can easily be damaged.

Then you need to remove the housing which will unclip and split along the line of the indicator lens. The "proper" tool used here is a special plastic wedge . You can use a blade but do be careful as can damage the plastic and paintwork.

Then you need to use a screwdriver to unclip the base from the mounting as you will see..

Once all that is done as above - only then can you unscrew the indicator assembly from the mirror. Once this is off you can access the indicator assembly...and give it its clean ;)
