Question

Our ONe year old female (spayed) cat, has gone off her food. She is hardly drinking her water and has eaten only sporadiacally for the last four days. This morning she has "vomited" liquid with air bubbles and no sign of food.

Optional Information

Pet's Age: 1

Already Tried:
We have just tried her with different cat biscuits and pouch food. She is still mobile but not her usual self. As a rule she is not the most sociable cat, prefering to be in the same room but in her own place. Even with this she has been less sociable. She usually comes to me if she wants a fuss and this has been much less common and for a much shorter time than normal. She also has nnot been purring when I have been stroking her.

Accepted Answer

Hi Adie Dee,
I'm sorry to hear about your cat. I suggest that she is seen by a vet right away for xrays of her abdomen and bloodwork (as well as a complete exam). At her age the most common causes of what you are describing are a foreign body obstruction in the gut, a toxin ingestion, or inflammation of the GI tract. The most important thing to rule out is an obstruction as this could be life threatening and would require (in most cases) surgery to remove the object(s).
For now I would pull up her water for 6-8 hours to keep her from having anything in her stomach to vomit up.
If you can reach an emergency vet tonight I strongly recommend you have her checked out especially since this has been going on for 4 days and by now I suspect she is probably clinically dehydrated.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Best,
