I have a 1077 Cal 30 sailboat with a Greymarine 4 cylinder engine in it. My issue is the boat runs fine in idle speed but as soon as I give it gas it stalls, starts right back up in idel speed but stalls again when IU give it gas. For the most part all I really need the engine for is to get me in and out of the dock but there are times (when the wind dies) I would like to have it work correctly. I put the gas additive in with the fuel for the ethanol issue but that has not helped alos cleaned the flame arrestor still no difference but it was dirty.

Hello. It sounds like you have a blockage in the carbureter, probably caused by ethanol in the gas combining with moisture to form a gum - this is quite common now. The only solution to that problem is to completely disassemble and internally clean the carbureter. What is happening is that enough fuel gets through for idle speed but when you try to get more speed the carb adds more air but not the fuel to go with it and so the air/gas ratio is insufficient to support continued combustion.

so would you try a spray carb cleaner first or just do a full carb disassemble and clean?

How about a rebuild of the carb

Spray cleaner doesn't help because it can't get to where the blockage is. A carb rebuild (or overhaul) is another name for a complete disassembly and cleaning.
