Question

Got a polaris SLX780 wave runner. Just had new engines and carbs rebuilt. When your first starting off it will rep up to 6000 rpms and try to go but hesitates. Sometime it takes 20 seconds for it to kick in and take off. Once your going it runs great till you stop again and try starting back up. Same hesitation. Any ideas.

Answer

Hello,

Spray some carb cleaner around the carb and intake manifold bases, it sounds like you have a vacumm leak coming from one of them, if when you spray the idle changes then you found the leak,

thanks,

Joe

Please let me clarify, the hesitation is not in the engine, as it revs up to full RPM's. The hesitation is in the acceleration of the waverunner, it will not plane. The engine is running full RPM's and the waverunner is barly moving through the water, until after 30 to 45 seconds, then takes off.

Accepted Answer

Ok then sorry please ignore my other posts, you are either sucking air from the ride plate not sealed good or a cracked jetpump or the most common problem is a bad wear ring and or impeller as well, the wear ring surrounds the impeller inside the pump and is made of plastic inspect it and it should be perfectly smooth and not much gap in between the impeller and it, the impeller should have no damage to the edges of it either, if the wear ring is damaged it will suck air and cause that problem.
