Question

I have a 98 chevy malibu with a problem in the theft deterrent system. The vehicle will not start from time to time. It is an intermittent problem. Usually if we wait for 10 minutes, the theft light on the dash will go out and the vehicle will start. The vehicle has 102,000 miles, and I would prefer to bypass the system. Is this possible?

Thanks,
Mike

Accepted Answer

Unfortunatly bypassing the system is not an option. The computer must receive the signal in order to start the car. We have replaced a number of passlock sensors in these vehicles. The passlock sensor is part of the ignition switch. When you wait 10 minutes you are in the learning phase and once it resets it should start until the problem occurs again.
