Question

Hello,
I have been raising a ferrel kitten since I think 1 day old. She is about 6 weeks now and is a small but happy kitten and has already been to the vet for an enema as she does not seem to deficate very often.
What can I give her for constipaiton, I have been feeding her the KM baby milk and am now adding stage 2. Sometimes she urinates what seems to me to be and extrodinary amount of urine. She is now using the litter box to urinate but has not had a bowel movement in a couple of days.
She has had gas under the skin in the belly area for weeks and the vet gave me antibiotics which helped a little.
Tell me what else I can do, when I try to stimulate her rectum nothing happens and I do not wish to cause her further distress.
I do burp her and rub her belly etc. she does not give any signs of pain but this is just not normal.
In the past I raised 4 other ferrel newborns with out one of theese issues.
Please help!
Thank you, Melissa

Dear Melissa,

May God bless you for saving her.
At her age she should be eating canned cqt food with a bit of water added. No chunks or shreds. Stick to pate` and keep it watery for now.

Give her whole cows milk as that is the best natural laxative.Dont give her senokot or any human OTC products.

You can insert a rectal thermometer in the anus with vaseline for a few seconds like you were taking her temp.

Please let me know how she is doing.

Best wishes for her,

Terri
