Question

I was pulled over yesterday. the officer asked ofr my license and registration. I gave him both, however, while giving him my current license my old one was still in my wallet. he asked for both of them and told me it was a criminal act to have two licensese in the state of florida. I did not know this, and I explained to that when I got my new license after changing my address, as required by law, I just placed it in my wallet and left my house. I have never had to pull it out because I have never been pulled over. he then gave me a criminal citation to appear in court. This is my first offense and I do not want to be charged with a crime that I did not know exsisted. how should I present this the court when I go?

Answer

The question is whether the Departmetn of Motor Vehicles voided out the old license or whether it had expired. If you attempted to defraud the DMV by using a different name, etc. in order to obtain a license with a different number, then you have a problem. If you just received a duplicate license or had the address changed and still had the same license number then it is not a probem. Just go in and explain it to the judge.
