Question

I have a 8 month old boxer and as most people know who own boxers they love to chew everything from remotes to couches, my problem now is that he will not eat or drink and is vomiting (more like drive heaves with bile, because his stomach is empty) not responding to anybody and very tired is this due to maybe him getting into something he shouldn't have or something altogether? Is there anything i can do from home to help him get better?

Accepted Answer

Based on his history I am more concerned that there may be an obstruction in his stomach or intestines that are causing these symptoms. For this there isn't anything you can do from home and time is of essence because these obstructions can perforate the intestines resulting in peritonitis and even parts of the intestines can die as a result. I do suggest taking him into the vet for xrays to help rule out this possibility. If he isn't up to date on his vaccinations then I would also suggest a parvo test. This is less likely but still possible. Lastly, if all tests are clear a fecal exam would also be recommended to rule out intestinal parasites. In the meantime don't try to push food as this may only increase his nausea. Withhold water as well but you can give him ice chips. You could try giving him 1 pepcid but chances are this won't stay down.

Please consider getting him checked out as soon as possible. Puppies get into everything and who knows what he may have stuck in there.

Let me know if further assistance is needed.
