Hello .. can you give us a little more detail about what is happening ... what pressure gague are you reading .. ?? does this pump usually keep a constant pressure on the system ??

Rich--no gage involved. I can watch sprinkler water pressure go down down down to zero with pump running. full pressure returnes when I stop / start motor for 3to 5seconds and this starts another 5 minute cycle. Clownvegaman

OK .. so is this a booster pump for your irrigation .. or is this pump for your house water supply?? if it is the house , then how does the pressure house behave ??

Answer

I am thinking that the pump is either running out of water to pump .. or it is getting air bound .. what is the pipe or whatever that is supplying this pump ?? metal. plastic?? .. does the pump get hot to the touch ??

Rich--1 1/2 Hp pump --several years old--pulls water thru 2" pvc pipe with foot valve 3ft. below pump. XXXXXXXXXXXXX...Thank You

Accepted Answer

OK .. is there anyplace that you can run this pump and let the water out thru an open pipe .. just let it go loose .. I think it may be pumping water faster than it is getting supplied .. That is one possibility .. another might be that it is getting air into the supply line and cavitating the pump ..
