Question

The gear shift on my Honda Fit gets stuck -usually on park but sometimes on reverse or on the way between. I can not get the engine off when that happens. Our dealer said he couldn't fix it if it didn't happen in front of him.

Hi,
I would leave the vehicle with the dealer and not pick it up until they find and fix the problem. If it's under warranty dealer's tend to blow off customers with intermittant problems because they don't get paid internally by Honda for such repairs. That's no excuse to not fix problems. You obvious noticed the problem and most likely you don't make up problems to hang out at the dealer all day.
If the service advisor won't listen to you ask to speak with the service manager and go from there. I'm thinking you have a bad brake switch, switch slightly out of adjustment or a bad shift interlock solenoid. These all need to be checked asap.
