Question

The KitchenAid Microwave has no power. It is a built in unit above the KitchenAid oven. The oven does have power. I've reset the circuits to see if that was the problem. Didn't help. What do you suggest.

Answer

first thing to do is remove the grill across the top, remove the screw at top of control panel, push up and remove ,, change the fuse just inside ,, you can take that one to a local hardware store and pick one up ,, be sure to unplug the m/w before getting into it / thanks

sounds good. Sorry for sounding dumb, but I dont see where to unplug the microwave. It is installed in a cabinet.
Also, there is no grill across the top. Above the microwave are the controls for the convection oven that lays beneath the microwave.
The 'control panel'... is it the keypad that one enters microwave instructions? If so, there are two screws at the base. Would these be the ones to remove?
Thanks.

these are not the model number ,,, is this a over the range or countertop m/w

For the life of me..cannot find a model number anywhere on the microwave.

The Oven is a KitchenAid Self-Cleaning Electric Built-In Thermal-Convection Lower Oven.

In the convection oven, not in M/C, there is a model # KEMS378YBLO

Also, FWIW, the problem of the micro having no power occured after the door was slammed shut.

Thanks again

Answer

i did not know this was a oven/microwave ,,, to kill the power to this unit you will have to kill the breaker to the oven and then take the scews out from the control panel and pull out and replace the fuse

Larry you've been very helpful. Im going to shut down all devices in the house- computers included because the circuit breakers are not labeled. Will I be able to continue this discussion / pay you / positive feedback etc... if replacing the fuse works?

Larry, I installed a new fuse into the microwave. The fuse was not on the inside of the control panel itself, but inside the space behind it at the base of microwave.
No luck.
How should I proceed? More options...or
Call the repairman? Recommendations? or
Buy a new unit? This would be difficult...sizing, installation. etc

Thanks,
Adam

Answer

i would at this point call a repairman ,,, you dont want to get into the hi-voltage part of the unit .. it will most likely be the door latch switches or one of the themostats ,,, read this and you will see why you dont want to get into it any deeper /

Consumer Product Safety Commission

Electrocution Hazard with Do-It-Yourself Repairs of Microwave Ovens

CPSC Document #5061

The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns against do-it-yourself repairs of microwave ovens. Each year, on average, four people die from electrocution trying to repair their microwave ovens. Microwave ovens use high voltage which makes it particularly hazardous for consumers to remove the cover and touch electrical parts. The possibility for electrical shock from a microwave oven still exists even after the oven is disconnected from the power source. Should certain internal devices fail, even unplugged ovens can cause serious injury.

The Commission strongly recommends that consumers have professionals repair microwave ovens because electrical appliances can be hazardous if consumers expose live electrical parts.

/!\ WARNING

ELECTROCUTION HAZARD
HIGH VOLTAGE

Removing the cover of your microwave oven and touching an electrical part can kill you.

Have a professional repair your microvave oven.
