Question

I own a 86 e-30,137k 5spd. I have replaced the following, mostly due to age. Fuel tank and pumps,f/pressure regulator,fuel lines,fuel filter,cap rotor,plugs.

I have a "sag" on accelaration. It feels just like a older, 4cyl,domestic car when the a/c cycles and the engine drops in performance.

It is more pronounced hiway speeds and cruising with cruise control. If i turn the cruise off, the syptom does not change.

I have had the injectors tested and cleaned as well as the throttle body and intake decarboned.

I wil tell you the baro sensor on the air cleaner box is broken and there is a coolant hose from the throttle body that is capped off and lays under the intake-related?

Answer

Hello,

Thank you for choosing Just Answer for your query. Yes I can help you.

Jump in anywhere here in my suggested “basics”, then check the EGR as suggested below.

I suggest you check things in this order.

1. Cam timing dead on - Does the TDC ball/mark on the flywheel (not the timing ball) line up perfectly with the cam mark?

2. Is the timing chain tensioner pumped up and tight on the timing chain? It should be if you have run it.

3. Are the valves adjusted properly?

4. Is the distributor in the correct position? Do this when you check the cam timing (step 1.). When the engine is in TDC the rotor should point to the notch on the edge of the distributor body (cap removed).

5. Correct firing order? #1 cylinder should be lined up with the notch in the distributor.

6. Set timing.

7. Set fuel mixture.

Try disconnecting the vacuum line going to the EGR valve and see if that makes a difference. Also check the manifold vacuum at idle, should be about 15", and then there should be a pronounced drop in vacuum if you apply vacuum to the EGR valve.

I hope I have answered your questions and addressed your concerns. Should you have further questions on this matter, please do not hesitate to ask. I want you to be 100% satisfied with my answer.
