Question

I was diagnosed with blepharitis 10 days ago. I was given antibiotic cream for my eye, an oral antibiotic (for a sinus infection) and was told not to wear makeup for a while. I have seasonal allergies and asthma.   Also, I had lasik surgery a few years ago and my eyes are dry. If I control the dry eyes will that help the blepharitis go away? And do my allergies and asthma contribute to my issue at all? Thank you very much.

Hi,
A blephritis is usually dryness and mild bacterial growth at the base of the eyelashes. It is mostly present in people who have dandruff in the hair on the head. Rarely it can be present otherwise also. The dry eye that you are talking about is inside the eye. In fact chronic blephritis can cause dryness and not vice versa. The treatment for blephritis is to apply antibiotic ointment on the eyelid margins and treat dandruff if present.
Blephritis may or may not be present in patients with other allergies like asthma etc. There is no significant co-relation.
