Answer
Hi XXXXXXXXXXXX,
Welcome to Just Answer. This is an interesting situation. I'm going to say that the thyrosyn could be the cause of the heavy breathing (panting) and the increased drinking. If nothing has been found up to this point in time with blood work and chest films that is good. Further evaluation of the cardiac function should be done with a possible ECG and ultrasound to just make sure there is no heart issues. But, for some dogs, if they are over supplemented with thyroid supplement they actually can become hyperthyroid. Signs of hyperthyroidism are -tachycardia, polyphagia, PU/PD, excitability, nervousness and excessive panting. I honestly would temporarily withhold further supplementation until symptoms subside. And then start up at a lower amount if at all.
Was this little one diagnosed as hypothyroid by sending off a blood panel to michigan state university?

the blood work was actually done at the er here in sc. i am a pharmacist and i knew that this was probably the answer.he was diagnosed july 31 as hypothyroid. i knew deep down to stop the thyrosyn. i will be dropping adam off at the vet in the morning and i have printed the side affetcs of levothyroxine and highlighted them for the vet to see. thank you for confirming to stop the thyrosyn!!!
Accepted Answer
The tough thing with confirming hypothyroidism on a single t4 test (the one most likely done at the ER clinic) is that if they are slightly ill for some other reason, they can have the t4 levels low when truly they are not hypothyroid. This is called euthyroid sick. To be honest, hypothyroidism is the most over diagnosed and most non-necessarily treated (because the pet is euthyroid sick) non-illness.
