Question

How to remove the detergent content from the water.

I thought of re-using the waste water from my washing machine at home for watering the garden. I see the detergent content as a problem. Is there a viable method to remove the detergent content and use the waste water.

Thank you in advance for your valuable suggestion.

Answer

Hello and thanks for using Just Answer.

Here are my thoughts on using gray water. I have been using my washing machine effluent straight from the machine via a 2 inch line to a grove of oak trees for over 10 years without experiencing any ill effects. Here is a link to a website that may help you:

The soil is the best way to remove the detergent. Also the State of California has formulated rules and crated a guide to using gray water.

Hope this helps .

Hi,

While I thank you for your answers, my query was as how can I remove or nutralise the detergent content from the water from cloth washing machine to use in the grden , as i have seen that the presense of detergent spoils the plants .

Thank you

Answer

One method would be to run it though a carbon filter and then use reverse osmosis to further purify it.

Hi Larry,

While running through the carbon filter, does it reacts or filters only. If reacts, what is the bye product formed.

Thanks

The carbon filter will filter a number of contaminants. Here is a link for your review.
