Question

Hi, I need to drill into my concrete walls in my apartment to install bookshelves. I have a McCulloch hand drill model 7888 18V, but it was a gift and has no instructions. Is this drill ok to use, and which bit should I use? Just whichever is the right size? I realize I may have to go out and purchase a new drill. If so, could you recommend something?

Thanks

Hello and thanks for using Just Answer.

You may be able to use your drill but you need to use a carbide tipped drill bit designed for masonry. These are available at any hardware or big box store. For better results you may want to buy a new drill equipped with a hammer drill option. The hammer drill will make the hole drilling a lot easier. One such drill is a Ryobi 18 volt drill or Ryobi corded (110 volt) drill. If these are unavailable in your area most manufacturers of power tools have a hammer drill.
