The purge count went to "zero" we pressed the "stop/exit" key and then pressed 99. The printer went to a reset mode and then displayed the "unable to initialize" message.

Turn off the machine and then disconnect the power cord
Plug it back in and hold the stop button at the same time

Nada por favor. It is still giving the "Unable to Init." message. Perhaps I really do need to clean the ink pad. How is this done? Your thoughts

Answer

Well actually it sounds like you need to replace the ink absorber. It is a sponge like part behind the cartridges when the cartreidges are in the home position. To replace it requires taking the machine apart to get behind the cartridge carriage.

I have the cartridge out but do not see the sponge part. Is it underneath the cartridge carrier.

Answer

No you would have to actually take the whole printer apart
It is behind where the cartridges are when they are all the way to the right inside the printer

I am sorry I did not explain myself well enough. I have taken the printer apart and have the entire cartridge carriage lifted out of it well. I also see a series of connect white pads running perpendicular to the ink carriage. The pads can be lifted out of the printer but they are connect by two hoses.

Is this what you are referring to?

Answer

Yes those are what would need to replace

Oops sorry!!! Where can you get teh replacement ink absorbers?

Accepted Answer

You should be able to get them a any local PC shop. They may have to order them for you though as long as brither is selling them individually.
