Question

I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora. I have had problems with the AC. I have a new compressor and drier recently. But, the problem is that sometimes the whole AC control panel will not light up or work when the car is first started. The information center does not light up either. This usually happens when the car has been sitting in the hot sun. (We live in Las Vegas.) Usually, after driving for a few miles the unit lights up and the AC works. The Pontiac dealer thinks it is the control module and wants $2400 to fix it. I think it is possibly related to an overheated relay or circuit breaker when sitting in the hot sun. Have you heard of this problem?

Problem 2 may or may not be directly related to problem above. It seems that the divider doors are not working properly on the AC either. For example, if i have the directional control on vent and change it to floor/vent combo it goes to the floor only. I also think that sometimes the AC is warmer than it should be. Solutions?

I believe that the dealer may be right in this case. I have had 2 different cars with similar issue and both were the control modules. Fortunately for you there is a cheaper solution. I basic goggle search for Control modules will reveal places that will repair your module. we are here in Maryland and we use H&R. They repair all sorts of radios and control modules. It should cut your repair bill by about half to have your module repaired.

Please advise contact information for H&R. I will try to find one closer to me but am not having much luck on Google.

Thanks for your help.
