Question

My puppy dog caught a wasp in her mouth, but quickly spit it. Unfortunately, now she has a swollen cheek! She is 22 months old, and has 32 lbs. Other than the swelling, she seems normal, and there is no blood in the stool or urine. This happened about 1 1/2 hrs ago. what can I do for her?

She does not take any medicine, and is very healthy. The only medicine I have is Benadry 50-mg. in Capsules, but I haven't given anything yet. Please HELP!

Accepted Answer

Give 1/2 of a 50mg benadryl capsule every 8 hours for the next 24 hours. It may cause some drowsiness. You can also try ice on the area. Finally, if she starts to act painful then you can try 1/2 of a 325mg buffered aspirin every 12hours. It shouldn't be given for more than 3-4 days straight. If it doesn't improve she'll probably need to go the vet for an injection to reduce the swelling. If you have more questions please let me know.
