Question

My 9 month old puppy got spayed 3 months ago. After she healed nicely but always had a small bump where the incision was. The vet didn't say anything about it. Now, 3 months later I think its getting bigger. Is that a problem? It doesn't seem to bother her, but I just want to make sure that its not something more serious.

Hello,

I am sorry to hear about your concern.

A few thoughts. With everything else having healed fine, there are two things I would be guessing about. One, a suture reaction from a knot under the skin. At the beginning and end of the incision, there is a knot that holds everything together. Sometimes, you can get a local reaction from the knot ends under the skin. My other concern would be a hernia has formed (essentially, a little hole formed in the wall of the belly allowing some tissue to come trhough).

Definitely, worth having a second opinion on it. I can't say with any certainty if your vet is right and there is no concern, or if they are blowing off the problem and not really giving the situation appropriate attention.

Good Luck

Dr. Andy
