Question

Hi Dr. Gabby,

I asked you earlier about my puppy and you told her to eat rice and chicken to cure diarrhea? I fed her the rice and chicken at noon and again at 6:00 pm however since then, she has not pooped. Is this normal?

Hello again,

She did not vomit did she?

Did you get the metronidazole or give her anything else?

Reply

no she didn't vomit. I haven't gotten the metronidazole because the vet wants a stool sample, is it necessary?

Answer

If the diarrhea, or soft stool, continues then a stool sample is a good idea.

It is fine that she has not popped yet. The other food was probably going right through her. A normal stool takes about 24 hours to form so you should see one tomorrow afternoon.

OKay, so i should not have to rush to the vet right now to get the metronidazole right? I'll just wait it out? thanks again!

Accepted Answer

That's right. There is no diarrhea. In fact no stool at all so you do not need the metronidazole right now. You have it under control. : )
