Question

I have a 1996 Evinrude 70 hp, gonna replace the impeller, cannot get the boot off, removed all bolts, and is slightly loose, but will not budge, tried in neutral and forward. Show me the way!

On the port side at the front of the engine under the lower carb you will see a pin (small bolt) going through a connector that attaches the shift lever to the gearcase shift rod. Remove this bolt and the gearcase will be released.

 

Don't turn the shift rod or it will need to be readjusted!
