I didnt delete the excel file but rather overwrote it with information from a different spreadsheet So in essence I have lost the info that I over wrote in XL

Obviously the info will be lost once you replace it with something else... If you have not closed the file then you can get it back by using the Undo command.. Just press "Ctrl+Z" it will undo the thing you have done.. But if you have saved the file then there is no way to retrieve it..
I wish that you have not closed the document..
