Question

im a building contractor builing a extension for my next door neighbour, the drawings his architect have provided go on to my land so i have pulled back the foundation accordingly, 8 inches to be exact, my neighbour is now saying that the drawings are correct and the boundarys are wrong, where do i stand? at the moment im £6000 out of pocket.

You need to have a surveyor come to the property and correctly locate the boundary of the two properties. This will determine who is correct and then you will be able to proceed accordingly. I would recommend to proceeding any further with the job until the property boundaries have been staked out and confirmed.
