Question

I just tried to have wood floors installed but they refused due to a high moisture reading in my concrete slab. They said I can go with ceramic tile which I am considering.Do I need to have my walls tested for moisture intrusion also.We had to have the stucco replaced when we bought the home due to moisture but had the roof reguttered to pull water away from the house and sealed the bottom of the stucco with water resistant sealer.Should I not do the ceramic tile either?

Answer

Hi XXXXXXXXX
Ceramic tile is always a better choice on a concrete slab particularly below grade. It may not be a bad idea to have your walls checked for moisture as well given your problem with the stucco.
If ceramic tile works with your decor then that is the way to go.

Should I call a plumber to check my pipes for leaks,I promise to pay you after this answer.

Accepted Answer

If there are no visible signs of a leak then there is no need to call a plumber. The high moisture content of your slab could be due to ground water or high ambient humidity. Unless you have water piping in the slab the moisture would not be coming from a plumbing leak. If you do have water (not drainage) piping in the slab and you have a water meter you can check for a hidden leak but turing off all fixtures in the house and whatch the meter to see if the indicator moves at all.
