Question

My husband switched our old thermostat with a new Honeywell RTH2310. It is working fine, keeping the right temperature, but the fan on the furnance is running all the time. How do we stop this from happening?

Answer

this means either the fan switch is in on instead of auto, or under the the thermostat the red wire is touching the green wire. Or last, the thermostat is defective and sending power back when it should not. I would check the fan setting, and if it is in auto I would remove the top portion of the stat and check that the red and green are not touching I am available for follow up.

I have checked the fan switch and it is on auto. the red and green wires are not touching - they have their own little compartments that insert in the thermostat so I don't think that is it. The unit seems slightly loose. When I move it slightly on the wall it the fan stops and then let go it starts again. Could it be something to do with that?

Answer

Yes it can. Also if red and yellow touch it will start fan. Right now if you can simulate the problem by flexing the tstat I would say you have wires touching behind the subase or a bad stat

Do I need a professional to take a look or is this something that we potentially could fix ourselves? My husband has switched other thermostats and not had any problems but this house is older.

Accepted Answer

you can more than likely do this yourself. I will leave this open so you can get back with me for any questions or concerns
