Answer

Solution:

Let the side of original square be x

side of new square = x + 7

area = (x + 7)^2

we are given that area = 225 cm^2

therefore,

(x + 7)^2 = 225

take square root

x + 7 = 15

=> x = 15 - 7 = 8

The length of side of the original square is 8 cm.
