Question

I own a 1995 Chyrsler Cirrus 2.5 v6 with a 107,XXX miles. I have been fighting a problem for about two months now and now Im at my wits end. The car runs when it wants, die's when it wants, starts back up when it wants. Ive replaced practically EVERTHING to fix the problem, but obviousley its not. Ive also been reading via the internet, that this seems to be a problem with chrysler. Can anybody help me! Thank You, Shaun.

Pcm,fuel pump,fuel filter,distributor,cap,rotor,egr valve and battery. I installed the new distributor, cap and rotor last night and still wont start! Do i need to take it back to Chrysler so they can reprogram the NEW PCM( PCM was ordered,programmed and installed by local chrysler dealer for warranty ) to the NEW Distributor. I dont think i have a short, but then again when i connect the Negative cable back on the battery, a small spark can be seen.Ive had my alternator and starter checked too just to be safe. Please if you have any suggestions, let me know. All plug wires and distributor are correct and at top dead center!

Have you replaced the crank position sensor? The distributor failing is the # 1 cause of a no start, but the crank position sensor is the 2nd most common cause of this.

Yes i did (Twice) just to make sure! This is a tough one and i have no problem paying you for your time, so anything and everthing will be greatly appreciated. If your allowed to, give me a call so i can discuss the problem with you in a more detailed fashion, if not, i guess we will try to tackle this via e-mail. Shaun, do you have access to a scan tool such as a SnapOn scanner? If so this would really be helpful. Sometimes auto parts stores will rent one to you. Let me know if you can get one,

Yeah i have an OBD II scanner, but my check engine light does not do its normal 3 flashes when you turn the key on and also when i do scan it, it says "unable to establish link to car, check to make sure your pluged in and key is in the on position" Im so sorry cjmopar, can you imagine what im going thru!!!!! Also im going back and fourth from the computer to the car, so please have patience with me. I got up early this morning and took EVERTHING apart again, just to check and double check myself and everthing looks good, im in the process of putting everthing back together rite now. Thanx again !!!!!!

Ok no problem. If the scanner will not connect then maybe the PCM is not being powered up. Let's make sure there is Batt and ignition feed and grounds to the PCM. Using your volt meter, verify there is 12 volts at the pins that I have marked in bold with the key in the on position. Also verify continuity to ground with your ohm meter. Let me know how that goes,

Good Morning Chris, Well yesterday was interesting, I put the car back together and everthing was going great except for the car did not want to start off the ignition switch, so i bypassed the starter relay with jumper wires and the car fired up. Now its always ran real good when its running but unfortunately the car died after idling for an hour, but it did fire right back up. While running the check engine lite came on, i turned the car off and did the key code method and it came back with code 15 (Speed Sensor) I also tried the scanner but its stil telling me Im not linked to the car. I did the check you asked me to do earlier and all of them are good. I also bought a new ignition switch (not the key tumbler) and installed it but it did not help. Basically the car is running, but doing the same thing and my ignition switch wont work inside the car.(key works on everthing except START)

Ok then check this for me: Disconnect the starter relay and probe each one of the starter relay cavities in the fuse/relay box with a 12 volt test light or a voltmeter.. One of the cavities should be hot all the time, and one should be hot only with the key in the start position. Check that for me and let me know what you find.

Ok I do have the CONSTANT HOT, but DID NOT have any others HOT in the start position!

Ok, there's a problem. There must be an open circuit between the ignition switch and the starter relay terminal. I believe the wire for this circuit is a yellow one. First do a visual inspection under the dash, and see if you can find the yellow start wire and follow it up to the big fire wall connector. Also while you are under there, look for any add on theft devices that may have been added (alarm, start disable device, etc.)

Hey Chris, Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. To fix the ignition problem i just ran a standard push button switch, so thats done, thats the least of my worries right now. Anyways, car is running great,(WHEN IT RUNS) I took it for a test drive yesterday and i can honestly tell you that its running better, i drove it for about 30 min. reaching speeds of 70 MPH without the A/C on, but about 10 minutes after i turned the air on, it died out on me while traveling about 40 MPH, it did start back up, but died right out again & would not start, so i got out and popped the hood, disconnected the back PCM plug(closest to the drivers windshield)and then reconnected it, immediately i could here the engine so called "PRIME" itself and the car started right up. I kept the A/C off this time and the car did not die out and ran very good but the tranny would only shift as far as 3rd gear(Automatic Tranny w/OD). I dont know about you, but this is driving me crazy, any suggestions other than taking it to the CRUSHER!!!! Is it possible the NEW PCM is messed up already! Sorry for the long story, i just wanted to give you details.

I have seen "bad" re manufactured PCM's and that may be what's happening here. I hve gone through 3 PCM's (even MOPAR units) before I got a good one, so keep that in mind. I have also had problems with after market crank sensors. There are some really junk crank sensors out there, so if the crank sensor you installed was not a MOPAR one you might want to install a factory sensor.

Okay i will keep that in mind about the crank sensor, and i will call chrysler tomorrow to see what they can do about the NEW REMAN. PCM they installed. Thanx for the info., I will be in touch 2morrow.
