Hello and thanks for researching this very important question!

This sounds a lot like what we call a "hot spot" in the U.S..

They develop when a long-haired dog chews one spot for a long while...irritating the skin and allowing bacteria from the surface of the skin to fester into deeper skin layers.

At home:

1) Carefully remove as much fur around the spot as you can. Cool dry air is very important to healing this type of wound.

2) Wash the skin with a mild antibacterial soap and plentiful water.

3) Blot the area very dry--do not rub, but make sure to dry things very well. Remove more fur if needed.

4) Apply a thin layer of an antibacterial ointment up to 4 times daily.

5) Prevent your pet from licking or scratching this area again.

6) See a licensed veterinarian if there is no significant improvement within a day...you may need stronger prescription medicines that will target resistant bacteria and dry the skin.
