Hi, not recently. The frist diagnostic run by the local in August 0f 2005 showed dead cells in the battery, which was replaced. Car started fine for a while. I started working from home so wasn't driving it much. The next summer the start failures recomensed,. May be once or twice for just a few minutes all season. In speaking with the same local dealer, he suggested that he really didn't that a diagnostic would show the problem. So the only thing replaced was the battery.
Hi Pete,
Hmm, that's been tried though not by me - I've been doing some looking around at other sites too. I found a bunch of folks with the same problem. One guy tried swapping out the ignition among other things:Aug 13, 2008 My 2000 9-3 started doing this intermittent no-start thing last summer. Like you, I spent until i was broke (warrant conveniently just ran out). The problem magically went away in the fall and the car ran like a charm autumn, winter, and spring. Then summer temps (80 seems to be the magic number) and BLAMMO. This summer I AGAIN spent a boat-load of cash and every time it fails again, randomly. I've had the car towed 3 different times and drove it in twice to 2 dealerships and 2 other foreign car repair shops. I've begun video taping the no-starts. They cannot duplicate the problem and "there are no codes stored or pending in any system". Here's what I've had replaced so far:
- ignition cassette- crank position sensor- starter relay- fuel pump- ignition wires "tightened"- car battery replaced- batteries to all key fobs The beginning of this week brought cool temperatures outside and the car ran perfectly. Yesterday it was back in the 80's and no start again. First thing this morning it in the 70's and the car started just fine. I called Saab yesterday, but of course was told that they have no advise or suggestions fo a car that has over 100k (mine has 122k). If ANYONE figures this out, tell us. I believe I'm going to wait until the fall and sell it. This message is just for anyone out there who is pouring money out to let you know what I've tried (and still keeps on the same problem).Good luck and God-speed to all with similar Saab stories.
I'm afraid I can't invest in process of elimination repairs, like this guy did. One of the replies suggested the Neutral Safety Switch or AKA Neutral Position switch, which is apparently under a perhaps inadequate heat shield, is the source of the problem for all of us 2000 SAAB 93 owners. Would you have any thoughts on that as the possible culprit and if so what repair/replacement might cost and entail?
Thanks for your help and prompt replies!
