Hello,
Did the Autopsy say specifiaclly worms or did it say parasites?
Did you have the puppy checked when you bought it, or did the puppy come with the medication?
Did the store tell you to have the puppy checked within a time frame by a Vet?
Joan
Hi,
The medication that you were given is called Albon which is an antibiotic. It is usually given for a protozoan parasite called Coccidia. It is not really a worm. If you can find it was coccidia that would account for a very sick puppy. Coccidia cause extreme diarrhea because it lodges itself in the intestinal tract. It can also cause blood in the stool and vomiting. I am going to give you some information on coccidia.

Albon is also very dehydrating as a medication and extra fluids should be offered when giving the medication. Coccidia is trasferred via oocysts which can become airborn and infect other animals. Extreme sanitation is very important when treating this parasite.
I am going to give you a link to a site that has all the parasites a dog or cat gets. If you look at the worms none are treated with Albon, but if you look at coccidia, you will notice that it is treated with the Albon. http://www.capcvet.org/recommendations/guidelines.html
I personally do not feel that the small amount missed from spitting it up or out is what caused the problem. Depending on what type of parasite you were dealing with is what may have robbed you of your puppy. I am so sorry for the loss! Joan
