Question
My freind has a 1999 Volvo V40.
Recently she has had a problem with the engine firing on three cylinders. A compression test on the other cylinder was not good.
Should she have the engine stripped down and repaired or look for a reconditioned engine and if so what sort of price would this be fitted?

Accepted Answer
Good evening, I hope I can help you.
Your friend is better to have this repaired. It is most likely just to be a burnt valve and will be a lot cheaper and easier to fix than to replace the engine.
The time to do both jobs is roughly the same so it comes down to parts. Valves and gaskets are cheaper than an engine.
