Question

I have 1986 toyotoa p.u. not cooling very well. someone suggested changing the orifice tube.

If the a/c cools somewhat but not cold enough it's usually because the freon is low, this truck uses the old R-12 freon which is not availble anymore in the US. Unless already done it should be changed over to use the R-134 freon, the conversion kits are available at autoparts stores and come with everything you need to put in the new freon, just follow the instructions. Keep in mind that this may only be a temporary fix and that there may a leak or restriction in the system which is another matter which may require professional diagnosis as there are many things that can affect the efficiency of an a/c system. As far as I know Toyota never used on orifice tube, they used an expansion valve and a receiver drier.
