Question

Hi, I've just bought a 2006 Rav 4.3 2.2D XT4. In the 24 hours of continuous rain we've just had the front passenger footwell has got extremely wet. It appears to be coming from the pollen filter behind the glovebox.Do you have any advice on how i could cure this please, is it likely to be a blocked overflow pipe somewhere? Thanks in anticipation! Duncan.

Does this rav4 have a sunroof (moonroof)?

Yes it does but there do not appear to be any leaks around this although I will blow out the the drains this weekend when I get it home. Duncan.

Answer

Don't blow on the drains, it's easy to pop them loose. pour a small amount of water in each corner of the track and be sure that the water drains to each fender in each corner and does not back up or just drain into the vehicle.

If the sunroof is clear then this is most likely a windshield seal leak or possibly a blower case overflow when a/c is in use.

Thank-you for your reply but unfortunately you didn't answer the question as I asked it, I have now solved the problem myself now that I've got the vehicle home.
As I originallly mentioned the leak appeared to be coming from the pollen filter, the cover had not been put back properly when this was changed allowing water to access the passenger footwell. The water was accessing the pollen filter because the drain holes in the plastic scuttle at the bottom of the screen were blocked by debris. Now that these have been cleared and the pollen filter cover properly replaced the water drains away as intended. Although this may not be the same with US models all UK spec XT4's have a sunroof.
Thanks for your time,
Duncan.
