Info Request

Hi,
Can you give me a little more information? How old is your cat? What is her drinking like? Any vomiting? What food are you offering her? Is she on any medications? What is her activity level?

Thanks,

she is about 3 yrs old, drinking is id say less amounts but more times than usual. she did vomit yesterday it was real foul smelling with a good bit of hair in it, not usual hairball style, as it wasnt clumped at all. we have tried her usual meow mix, cat treats, and cat sip milk. the treats and food are hard style . she is on nothing more than the nutri cal right now. no real meds. and her activity is nothing more than walking very slowly to her isolation spot after i give the nutrical every hour

Hi,
A young cat who isn't eating or feeling well makes me think of:
1. diabetes -- would expect that over the last few weeks to a month she would have been drinking and urinating more and eating well, there would also be weight loss.

2. Feline leukemia or feline AIDS - if she was tested as a kitten and negative and never goes outside, then probably not.

3. constipation - can cause vomiting, no stool in the box, and a decreased appetite.

4. obstruction - such as from a toy, string (check under her tongue and make sure one isn't stuck there!), plastic bag piece, rubber band, etc. This will cause some vomiting, inappetance, and lethargy due to stomach pain.

If you think it might be constipation, I would try giving her some regular "people" cow's milk. Most cats are lactose-intolerant and the cow's milk should cause a soft stool. I would also offer canned food to eat or try meat baby food--both would taste much better than dry food to a cat with little appetite.

But since this has been going on for several days, I wouldn't wait much longer, especially since she is hiding and lethargic. I would find another vet in the area and take her there for an exam. If she is constipated, then an enema and fluids will probably be given, along with a stool softener. The vet may want to take an x-ray, especially if she is painful in her abdomen, or do bloodwork if everything else seems normal.

Good luck! Let me know what you find!
