Question

Hi! My pregnant cat has had a vaginal discharge for 6 days. It started out as a light brown discharge, but now it is white and clear. I have been reading online that queening will start 12-24 after this discharge, but it has been 6 days. Should I be worried?

Hello,

This is Dr. Christian. Welcome to JustAnswer. How far into the pregnancy is she? Do you see any blood in the discharge? Does she seem distressed or ill in any way?

She is about 8-9 weeks pregnant. There is a little brown tinge to it. I have been watching her around the clock, and she seems normal. She is eating and drinking, but is sleeping a lot. She has spurts where she meows like she's in heat, and rolls on the floor. Her kittens inside are still moving around, but she is a small framed cat, and I am worried that if she goes into labor when I am not with her, she will be in trouble.

Accepted Answer

The discharge at this point is probably completely normal at this point, based on what you've described. There is no set time frame with some of these things. You'll know the true start of labor when she starts nesting and then of course pushing. Smaller cats can have a little more difficulty and so watching her is definitely a possibility but it won't happen over the course of 15 minutes but more like hours. For now it's okay to continue to monitor her. If she has not had her kittens in a couple of days then have her checked by your vet. Here's some links that might help:
