The first step in the process will be to remove the concrete anywhere you plan to have sod put down. The concrete will need to be saw cut into manageable size pieces for removal. The concrete pieces can typically be broken up with a Bobcat with front bucket attachment. You will need to hire a company with the appropriate equipment and truck to haul the concrete away. Once all of the concrete has been removed, rake the entire area to gather as much of the small concrete chunks that have broken off.

The area will then need to be graded to provide the proper drainage away from the house. Top soil will next need to be applied to the area and smoothed out. Next install a sprinkler system if necessary to provide the proper water requirements of the sod. Lastly, contact a landscaping company to determine the type of sod that suits the area and climate that you live in. There are different types of sod that will require more care and attention to maintain.

Depending upon how much concrete you have to remove and sod needed, the costs on this job can vary. I recommend contacting 3 subcontractors in the area for each step and get quotes prior to starting any work.
