Not a Cat Veterinary Question?
Question
I have been treating my cat for ear mites for about 2 weeks, he is about 12 (unsure as he is a rescue cat) is long haired. Recently his coat is fairly dull, his food / water input and toiletting is the same. Was a bit concerned so took him to the vets this weeks. She thinks that he may have hypertyroidism. As yet I have not had this confirmed by bloods etc. Unsure of whether to put him through it all especially if he is diagnosed, as he is happy in the home and doesn't appear to be in any pain. He is very much an indoor cat) I'm in a bit of a dilemma, what do you advise.

You need to find out what the problem with him is. If he has hyperthyroidism it can lead to dilitative cardiomyopathy or a enlarged heart. This will eventually lead to heart failure and death. Feline hyperthyroidism is easily treated with an inexpensive medication. Go ahead with the blood work for thyroid function.
