Hello. Thanks for writing in. Are you talking about an enlarged abdomen? How long ago did she give birth?

2 days ago. She has a smallish lump on each side of her abdomen.
Now she is bleeding.

How many kittens were born? Did you have any x-rays done to see how many kittens were inside her? How is her appetite and activity level? Is she letting the kittens nurse?

She's not my cat. i am babysitting som eones kids and she had them while I am here. There arre 7 kittens. I don't believe there were x-rays done. She is still eating well and is active. She is letting them nurse and is constantly cleaning them.

Answer

Thanks for the information. It is not uncommon to still have abdominal enlargement and a small amount of bloody discharge from the vulva a couple days after giving birth. The uterus is still enlarged and doesn't start involuting immediately. Possible complications may include kittens that are still in the uterus (possibly dead kittens) or abnormal bleeding or infection in the uterus after giving birth. At this point, I wouldn't be overly worried. She is still active and eating, so that is good. If the discharge doesn't stop in a couple days, gets worse or turn greenish; a serious issue may be going on, and she would need to be examined by a vet. If she stops eating or gets very lethargic, she would need to be examined as well. I would try and get in touch with her owner and let her know what is going on and get permission to bring her to the vet if you need to. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this helps.
