Hello,

This is Dr. Christian. Welcome to JustAnswer. A few questions will help me get a clearer picture of this situation:

  • What symptoms does your dog have?
  • How long have they been going on?
  • Does your dog take any medications or have any other medical conditions?

Dr. Christian, She has puddin like bowel movements they have an orange brown color. She has been this way for 8 days. Although she has made progress after 4 days and had two days of formed bowel movements. Sunday of this week she threw - up her meal. Went to vet on Monday. She gave her a shot. Told me to switch from pepto to mylanta. Keep same bland diet. She does not take any other medications. Thanks, Coachjwj

Do you know the name of the antibiotic she is on?

Is she eating the bland diet well?

Is she drinking water well?

No vomiting since Sunday?

Dr. Christian I think she saik it was fuseal not sure of spelling. She eats all of her chicken but I try to add low residue canned food she would not eat the low residue dog food. i feed her the chicken 2 times a day. i tried three but she did not eat the third. She drinks plenty of water and goes to the bathroom everyday. She has not thrown-up since Sunday. I noticed she prefers to lay on her stomach although she will lay on her side when asleep.

Thank you for the information Coachjwj. Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas which is near the small intestine/stomach and helps digest food by producing enzymes. It can certainly cause diarrhea, vomiting and sometimes abdominal pain. The goal of treatment is to prevent abscesses from forming with antibiotics and let the pancreas rest as much as possible so the inflammation goes down. This is why she was put on the bland diet and antibiotics. I'm not familiar with the antibiotic you've named but it's probably helping to some degree. Typically, pancreatitis resolves within in 2-4 days so this is a little unsual to linger for this period of time, especially with the appropriate treatment. I'm concerned that there might be something else going on such as intestinal parasites or an intestinal infection that requires a different antibiotic. I definitely think it would be best to have her rechecked and explore other possibilities. If that is not possible then make sure stays hydrated (even if she seems like she is drinking alot, more is better) by offering warm chicken broth if necessary. Sometimes it helps to put it on the food. You can also offer white rice and scrambled egg whites. A little plain yogurt may help with the diarrhea because the bacteria in it are very beneficial. If you have more questions please let me know.
