our springer bitch was covered for just a few moments by our setter dog today. (there was a successful tie) is there a chance that she could be in pup for him. we had her covered straight after with our springer dog.

Hello and thanks for researching this very important question!

Dogs can become pregnant by any sperm present in the uterus when eggs are released from the ovaries.

Your bitch may now produce a "mixed" litter--that is, some of the pups may be 1/2-setter mixed pups, and the rest 100% springer pups. Or any combination...all setter mixes, or all springers.

The pups would have to be DNA tested after birth to make sure which they are.


Your veterinarian can help you figure out the best thing to do now...to either chemically induce an abortion, surgically spay her (sterilizing her permanently), or place the pups in good pet homes after 8 weeks of age.
