Question

My exgirlfriend and I had a joint checking account. I bought a house in my name only. She lived in the house 3 months and we broke up. Now she is saying that I owe her $3000.00 because her tax money was in the account with my money when I bought the house. All the household furnishings that we had bought together, she took with her. She cleaned the house out when she left. She used the checking account just like I did when we were together and got her last employement check from the checking account. Do I owe her any money? She tried to say we were common law but found out we were not.

I am going to the plolice tomorrow and file a harrassment charge against her and her dad for ugly text messaging and phone calls. I have asked her why she thinks I owe her money. She said because her tax money was in the checking account when I put the down payment on the house, but I also got a loan on my 401K and put in the checking account. The down payment on the house was $2500.00 and my 401K loan was $1900.00

Answer

WHAT YOU WOULD NEED TO DO IS EXPENSE THE AMOINT YOU PAID FOR THE HOME EVERY MONTH, AND ALL YOU EXPENSES, AND WHAT SHE PAID.

IN THE 3 MONTHS SHE LIVED IN THE HOUSE IF SHE DID NOT PAY FOR THE MORTGAGE AND LIVED FREE SHE WOULD OWE YOU THAT MONEY, ALSO UTILITIES ETC.

THE ONLY WAY TO PROPERLY SEE WHAT WAS DONE IS TO DO AN ACTUAL EXPENSE STATEMENT, IT MAY BE THAT SHE OWES YOU MONEY IF SHE DIDN'T PAY FOR THE HOME EXPENSES WHEN LIVING THEIR.
