Question

At random times my 6 cyl f150 will not start. Once it quit while I was driving, then restarted it self before I could react. Later that day it started twice, but stopped again after I drove a few feet. Would not start. No spark. We swapped out a known good used coil, then a known good used ignition module, no help. Out of frustration I let it sit for two days and just for the heck of it a buddy cranked it and it started right up!! Has started several times since.

I'm afraid to take it anywhere. Any ideas?

My ford is a 1992 6 cylinder. 125,998 miles

I already swapped out known good used coil, a known good used ignition module.

Previous owner said he put in a new distributor (then let it sit for a year). Once in a while the speedo stops working...restarts on its own

When it is running it runs fine.

So when it does quit, is there any spark at the coil?

NO! Sorry I left that part out... The fuel pump is OK. Batterry is strong.

Thanks

Ok, I need you to try and physically turn the rotor under the cap. I have seen some of these chew up the dist gears and the gear on the camshaft. Even if you cannot turn the rotor, mark the position of the rotor to the dist and mark the dist to the block and pull the dist out and check the gears and make sure the roll pin didn't come out. If this is the case, you will need to replace the dist and cam if the cam is bad.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks
