Question

Hi,

I have a 11 year old cat who last night fell whilst trying to jump on the breakfast bar - she seems to have landed on her bum and the bum area including the lower part of the back and tummy are sore. She is eating and purring when I stroke her but she is not wanting to move at the min and when she does it is very gingerly, and slowly. She is not crying out pain and she is eating as I said and purring. If I can avoid taking her to the vets I will as that would be more traumatic for her... Any advice?

Regards

Jane

Answer

Hi Jane,

I am so sorry your girl fell.Purring can be a sign of pain as well as pleasure.

As long as she coninues to eat and eliminate fine you can try home care.

Apply warm compresses to any painful areas.

Let her rest and be as imobile as she wishes so she can heal up.

Do not give her any human OTCs for pain or swelling as moost (even aspirin) are toxic to cats.

Please let me know how she is doing.

I hope she feels better very soon.

Best wishes for her,

Terri

Thanks Terri, much appreciated - she has just eaten some chicken and I have taken a litter tray upstairs for her. So I can see what happens.

Hi Terri

I had to rush her to the vets as there was blood and puss all over the bed when I got home - she obviously has an absess that might have been effecting her jumping hence her falling and that might have agrevated it - she is in over night and they will sort her out tomorrow - and will know more then. But thanks for your advice it was much appreciated, I never even noticed a swelling - but maybe the warm compresses brought it out??!! Who knows.

Kind Regards

Jane

Info Request

Dear Jane,

I am so glad you had her seen., Yes, when an abscess bursts it can look very scary. The warm compresses usually work to get it to drain.

I hope she will be fne now,

Kindest regards,

Teri
