Question

I have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra Hatchback and the alarm has started going off randomly. It was in an accident about 5 months ago but the problem has been more recent. I can use the remote to shut it off but the alarm goes off again after a few minutes. How can I disconnect the alarm or do you know why it would do this

When the alarm is going off is it the horn sounding or a siren

siren

Answer

Ok a siren sounding is an aftermarket alarm not factory factory alarms the horn will sound i assume you have a little black remote these brains for these alarms go bad causing this issue look up under drivers side dash you should see a litle black box about 4 inches by 4inches sometimes wire tied up high just remove the connector to the brain this will disable the alarm

There's no 4x4 black box. The car was bought new and we didn't request an alarm. The dealer never said they were installing an after market alarm.

Well if its a siren its usually aftermarket do the remotes say hyundai on them

The remote is just a lock and unlock button that says Hyundai on it

Accepted Answer

Ok then it is factory most of the time its the horn that sounds when its factory, have you checked under the hood pass side? On the fender there should be a pin switch and on the hood a rubber bump tab that pushes down on the pin swiitch. Make sur the pin switch did not get pushed down or the bump tab did not get knocked off of the hood, this is the most common problem the switches break or short out

The pin is there and the rubber bumper is there. They both seem to line up properly.

Ok it could be internal in the control unit itself unfortunately there is no way to disable the alarm system you can try to check the trunk switch last and see if theres a fuse labeled security system in the under dash fuse box
