Question

Our next door neighbours have removed all the trees in their garden, their 6 foot dividing fence that provided us with privacy, and raised and paved their back garden by 4- 5 feet, which means that they now tower over our garden and we have lost our privacy. Is their anything we can do?

Hi Catherine
From what I can gather from your description it sounds like all the changes that your neighbors made were on their property. If this is the case there isn't much you can do. Perhaps your only recourse would be if the changes they made had an adverse effect on your property's drainage. In other words if after the changes they made to the grade level of their property rain water now ponds on your property or runoff from their yard floods your basement or has some other adverse effect on your property then you might have a cause for a complaint. You might want to check with your local code enforement office (building inspector) to see if permits were required for the work that they did and were permits pulled if they were required.
