Question

I have a 12 year old cat, who has had 3 urinary tract infections, when he was under the age of 5. The last one he had, my vet castrated him so he would not have the problem anymore and of course he is on a special diet. The only problem is lately when he has been using his litter box some of the urine misses the box and goes on to the floor. It seems like the urine is splattering.Any advice?

Answer

Has he ever been tested for urinary crystals that could be blocking the urethra? This can cause some urinary spray.

You should also keep in mind that some cats experience severe arthritis so they will hesitate to climb fully into and out of the box because it's painful. You might want to try a box with lower sides. If you don't suspect this, a covered box will contain the spray and help you with this.

Let me know if you still have questions.
