Info Request

Hi,

Do you have any burning or tingling in the tongue?

Are you diabetic?

Any coating on your tongue?

I'm still online to answer your queries after you send me this info.

no burning, no tingling, not diabetic. No coating either. Maybe I'm just dehydrated. It is hot here in Puerto Vallarta. Do you think it is that?

Answer

Hello,

I would like to help you with your question about having a dry tongue.

This sounds like a condition called xerostomia, which means dry mouth. Here is a link with more details:

http://www.oralcancerfoundation.org/dental/xerostomia.htm

This is a common condition that is most likely benign and not associated with any other illness.

However, there are illnesses which have xerostomia as a symptom. If you are healthy otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much about these possibilities.

Xerostomia can be caused as a side-effect of medications, but if you are only taking synthroid then this is probably not the case for you.

As far as treatment, your best option is probably the self-care approach which you have already been following. Also it may be worthwhile to visit an "alternative" practitioner in your area such as a naturopathic doctor, acupuncturist, or herbalist since there are natural treatments for this condition.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you would like more information.
